
Aircraft emergency at VC Bird Airport managed without major disruption
Operations at V.C. Bird International Airport continued without major disruption on Wednesday morning after an arriving aircraft experienced a communications-related emergency.
According to an advisory issued by the Antigua and Barbuda Airport Authority, the incident occurred at approximately 8:36 a.m. local time (12:36 UTC) on April 22.
Airport officials said the situation was handled in accordance with established safety protocols, with Air Traffic Control personnel responding swiftly to guide the aircraft to a safe landing. Emergency services were also placed on alert as a precaution during the incident.
The Authority confirmed that the matter was managed efficiently and that there were no significant disruptions to scheduled operations. Flights continued to arrive and depart shortly after the situation was resolved.
In its statement, the Airport Authority commended its Air Traffic Control team and wider operations staff for their professionalism and coordinated response, noting that their actions ensured the safety of all involved.
