Workers at the National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA) staged a protest this Wednesday morning over outstanding back pay, working conditions at the landfill, and what they described as a breakdown in communication with management.

Around 60 workers from the landfill and waste collection units gathered outside the Multipurpose Cultural Centre to air their grievances ranging from unpaid incentives and a risk allowance they say has fallen behind comparable statutory bodies, to complaints about inadequate bathroom facilities at the landfill and transportation they argue is too small for the roughly thirty workers who report to the site daily.

Several workers also called openly for the removal of General Manager Indira James-Henry, citing what they said was a lack of engagement from the top of the organisation.
