Reggae in the Park opening night
The energy of Antigua Sailing Week burst to life on Tuesday night as hundreds gathered at the Falmouth Rectory Grounds for the highly anticipated “Reggae in the Park” celebration — the unofficial but widely embraced старт to the Caribbean’s premier sailing event.
Under a canopy of stars, a lively mix of local Antiguans and international sailors came together, drawn by pulsating reggae rhythms, a festive atmosphere, and the unmistakable buzz that signals the beginning of a week of world-class racing and social events.
For many, the evening is more than just a concert — it is a tradition. Crews fresh off the water, visitors, and residents alike filled the grounds, embracing the laid-back spirit and camaraderie that define the regatta.
“This is the true opening night of the regatta,” said Peter Blunden, skipper of Life of Riley III, who attended with his son and tactician James Blunden and crewmate Glenn Richard. “We had to be here for Reggae!” he added, reflecting a sentiment shared by many in attendance.
The event set the tone for the days ahead, blending music, culture, and sailing into one vibrant showcase of Antiguan hospitality. As the rhythms carried late into the night, it was clear that Antigua Sailing Week had officially begun — not just on the water, but in the hearts of all who gathered to celebrate.
