All Three Accused Deny Killing Nigel Christian as Defence Cases Close

Lasean Bully, of Cashew Hill; Wayne Thomas, of Hatton; and Saleim Harrigan of Greenbay — are charged with killing Nigel Christian

A jury is now behind closed doors deciding the fate of three men charged with one of Antigua and Barbuda’s most high-profile murders in recent years.

Saleim Harrigan, Wayne Thomas and Lasean Bully are on trial for the murder of senior Customs officer Nigel Christian, and after weeks of proceedings, the case is now in the hands of the jury.

The trial began on February 19th and has run for more than two months. This morning, Justice Rajiv Persaud spent more than four hours summing up the evidence before sending the jury out to deliberate. A verdict is expected later today.

The case goes back to July 10th, 2020, when Christian was abducted at gunpoint from his home in McKinnons. He was bundled away and shot dead on a dirt road in Thibou’s later that same day. The killing sent shockwaves across the country, particularly within the Customs Department where Christian was a well-known and respected figure.

The three accused have faced the full weight of the prosecution’s case over the course of the trial, with the jury now tasked with determining whether the evidence is sufficient to find them guilty of murder.
