Melford Nicholas retains the seat of St John’s City East in the 2026 Antigua and Barbuda General Elections
St. John’s City East has remained in the hands of the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP), with Melford Nicholas successfully retaining the constituency in Thursday’s General Elections. Nicholas received the majority of the votes in Thursday’s elections.
Nicholas defeated the United Progressive Party’s (UPP) candidate Pearl Quinn-Williams, securing another term as the parliamentary representative for the closely watched seat.
The constituency had been one of the most keenly contested battlegrounds heading into the polls, following its razor-thin margin in the previous general election, where Nicholas won by just six votes.
Despite strong campaigning from Quinn-Williams, who had expressed confidence in overturning the narrow deficit, voters ultimately returned Nicholas to office, reinforcing the ABLP’s hold on the urban constituency.
St. John’s City East has historically been a competitive seat, but Nicholas has maintained his grip on the constituency since first winning it in 2014 and has now extended that streak with another electoral victory.
The result adds to the ABLP’s overall performance in the 2026 General Elections, as the party seeks to secure another mandate to govern Antigua and Barbuda.
