From “AN-TEE-GWA” to “AN-TEE-GAH” | Speed Gets Live Pronunciation Lesson in Antigua

Popular internet streamer IShowSpeed received a quick lesson in Antiguan dialect during his livestream tour stop in Antigua and Barbuda on Sunday, after well-known local event host Steve “Ibis” Freeland corrected his pronunciation of the country’s name live on camera.

The moment unfolded as Speed streamed through sections of the island while interacting with fans gathered around him during his latest Caribbean tour stop. During the broadcast, the streamer repeatedly referred to the island as “AN-TEE-GWA,” prompting Freeland to step in and demonstrate the pronunciation more commonly used by Antiguans, “AN-TEE-GAH.”

Freeland, a familiar face in Antigua’s entertainment and event scene, was heard carefully repeating the pronunciation as Speed attempted to follow along while viewers online reacted in real time.
