Prime Minister Gaston Browne
Prime Minister Gaston Browne delivered a forceful and wide-ranging charge to newly sworn-in government ministers on Tuesday, declaring that the overwhelming electoral mandate handed to his administration must be met with performance, discipline, and unwavering accountability.

Speaking during the official swearing-in ceremony at the American University of Antigua (AUA), Browne made it clear that holding office is not a privilege but a responsibility that must be honoured daily.
“This appointment is not a reward. This is a calling,” Browne said, emphasizing that ministers are now entrusted with a sacred duty to govern effectively and deliver results for the people.

The Prime Minister described the recent election victory as a “powerful and unmistakable mandate,” warning that it must not be taken lightly. He insisted that the confidence placed in the government is not “a gift to be enjoyed” but “a burden to be carried” and “a trust to be honored every single day.”
In one of the most striking moments of his address, Browne declared bluntly: “Failure is not an option,” signaling what appears to be a no-nonsense approach for the new term.
Browne urged his ministers to move beyond incremental progress and instead pursue bold, transformative development across all sectors. He pointed to infrastructure, healthcare, education, and housing as critical areas requiring accelerated action.

“We are called to build — not incrementally, but boldly and with intensity,” he said, outlining a vision that includes modern roads, improved water systems, expanded ports, better hospitals, and stronger educational institutions.
However, the Prime Minister stressed that national development must go beyond physical infrastructure.
“Concrete alone does not create a nation… We must build our people,” he added, highlighting investments in youth, workforce skills, and entrepreneurship as central to long-term growth.
Browne also used the platform to call for national unity, warning that division could undermine progress.
“No renaissance can be built on division. No great nation rises divided against itself,” he said, urging both government officials and citizens to align behind a shared national vision.
He linked unity directly to productivity, calling on citizens and public officials alike to work harder and more efficiently to sustain economic growth and rising living standards.
In a pointed message to his Cabinet, Browne warned that mediocrity would not be tolerated.
“There is no room for idlers and laggards in our government,” he said, adding that ministers will ultimately be judged not by their titles but by their performance.
He made it clear that history and the public will hold leaders accountable for their actions during this term.
“The people are watching. History is watching. And your legacy will not be written by the title you hold, but by your performance,” Browne declared.
Framing the new administration’s tenure as a defining moment in the country’s history, Browne said the government now carries the responsibility of advancing what he described as a national “renaissance.”
“We are not just building an economy — we are shaping a destiny,” he said, calling on ministers to rise to the occasion and justify the trust placed in them by the people.
