Prime Minister Gaston Browne
Prime Minister Gaston Browne has issued a direct warning to senior public servants, demanding immediate action to ensure workers receive outstanding payments.
During his Labour Day address, Browne expressed frustration over delays in processing back pay and other entitlements, insisting that there is no excuse for non-payment.
“The money is in the Treasury… every single worker must be paid,” he said.
He called on administrative leaders to act swiftly, warning that failure to do so would not be tolerated under his administration.
“When we say process the back pay, we expect you to do so,” Browne stated.
The Prime Minister also referenced workers affected by COVID-19 vaccine mandates, insisting they too must be compensated as directed.
The comments highlight ongoing challenges within the public sector bureaucracy and signal a more aggressive stance from the political leadership to enforce compliance.
Browne made it clear that respect for workers includes timely payment, describing it as a fundamental obligation of the state.
“Treat the workers with respect,” he urged.
The statement is expected to resonate with public servants awaiting payments and could increase pressure on government departments to resolve outstanding issues quickly.
