A devastating fire tore through parts of Roseau, Dominica, in the early hours of Wednesday morning, destroying nine buildings and leaving significant damage in the capital city.

Among the structures engulfed by the blaze was the office of United Workers Party Leader and attorney Joshua Francis.

Authorities in Dominica confirmed that emergency crews responded to the fire during the wee hours of the morning as flames rapidly spread through the area, consuming multiple buildings before firefighters were able to bring the blaze under control.

The full extent of the losses has not yet been officially detailed, but the destruction is expected to have a major impact on businesses and occupants affected by the incident.

The cause of the fire remains unknown at this time, and investigations are ongoing.

Images and reports emerging from the scene showed extensive damage, with several buildings reduced to rubble and debris as smoke continued to linger over sections of Roseau hours after the fire was extinguished.
