Mary-Clare Hurst

The Cabinet of Antigua and Barbuda has paid tribute to late former senator and government minister Mary-Clare Hurst, describing her as a pioneering national figure whose contribution to public service and politics will long be remembered.

Cabinet members observed a moment of silence in honour of Hurst during Wednesday’s meeting, reflecting on her years of service to the country and the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party.

The Cabinet highlighted her groundbreaking achievements, including becoming the first woman to serve as General Secretary of the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party. She also served as a government senator, Leader and Deputy Leader of Government Business in the Senate, and Minister of State in the Ministry of Tourism and Economic Development.

Cabinet members further praised her leadership at the Antigua and Barbuda Port Authority, where she served as Chairman and earned respect for her professionalism and administrative leadership.

The government also announced that Hurst will be accorded an Official Funeral in recognition of her distinguished contribution to national development and public service.
