Dates Announced for Parliament Opening and Swearing-In Ceremonies

Attorney General Steadroy Benjamin has informed Cabinet of the official dates for the opening of Parliament and the swearing-in of lawmakers.

According to the schedule, the Lower House of Parliament will meet on May 18 for the election of the Speaker and Deputy Speaker, along with the swearing-in of elected members. The government is expected to nominate Osbert Frederick as Speaker and Philmore Benjamin as Deputy Speaker.

The Upper House will convene on May 20 for the election of the President and Deputy President of the Senate, as senators are formally sworn in. The government intends to nominate Alincia Williams-Grant as President of the Senate and Philip Shoul as Deputy President.

Meanwhile, Governor General Rodney Williams is scheduled to deliver the Throne Speech on May 26.
