LIAT Air Exploring Partnership with Regional Ferry Service to Expand Caribbean Connectivity

Hafsah Abdulsalam, LIAT Air CEO

Chief Executive Officer of LIAT Air, Hafsah Abdulsalam, says the airline is already in discussions with regional ferry operator L’Express Des Iles as part of broader efforts to strengthen transportation links across the Caribbean.

Speaking to reporters during Friday’s inaugural Antigua-to-Guadeloupe flight, Abdulsalam confirmed that LIAT Air sees significant opportunities in partnering with the ferry company, which transports passengers between several French and Eastern Caribbean islands.

“We do have plans to partner with them, and my team has already been in contact ” Abdulsalam revealed.

The CEO explained that LIAT is looking beyond Antigua and Guadeloupe alone, noting that ferry routes also connect destinations such as Dominica and St. Lucia — markets the airline hopes to tap into as part of its regional expansion strategy.

“We also see the connectivity not just for Antigua as well. There’s Dominica, there’s St. Lucia, there’s ferry service on those routes as well,” she said.

Abdulsalam noted that combining air and sea transportation options could help improve regional movement while creating easier travel opportunities for tourists and Caribbean nationals.

The comments came as LIAT Air officially launched its twice-weekly Antigua-to-Guadeloupe service Friday, marking the airline’s latest move to rebuild and expand intra-Caribbean travel connections.

Industry observers believe closer collaboration between LIAT Air and ferry operators could eventually create multi-destination travel packages and smoother regional transit for passengers moving between French and English-speaking Caribbean territories.
