Damar Sappleton

More than a year after officers discovered nearly a quarter of a million dollars worth of cannabis hidden inside two boxes at Deep Water Harbour, the man behind the shipment has finally admitted his guilt.

Damar Sappleton, a Jamaican national who had been residing in Bendals, appeared before High Court Judge John Spencer on today and pleaded guilty to drug trafficking, bringing to a close the prosecution phase of a case that began with a joint police and customs operation on March 8th, 2024.

On that day, officers uncovered 41 pounds of cannabis, valued at an estimated $246,000, concealed within the boxes at the harbour.

Sappleton was remanded to prison and will return to court for sentencing on June 5th.
