
Joel Rayne
Senator Joel Rayne is set to assume an expanded role within the government after being appointed Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Finance, Corporate Governance and Public Private Partnerships.
Rayne is expected to take the oaths of allegiance, office and secrecy during a swearing-in ceremony at Government House today Thursday.
His appointment comes just one week after he and nine other government senators were officially sworn into Parliament’s Upper House.
The ceremony will also mark the swearing-in of the final government senator, completing the government’s full slate of appointments to the Senate.
Tiffany Anthea Lauren Strann-Peters is expected to take the oaths of allegiance, office and secrecy as she officially joins the Senate.
Under Antigua and Barbuda’s Constitution, the Senate is made up of 17 members.
Eleven senators are appointed on the advice of the Prime Minister, four on the advice of the Leader of the Opposition, one on the advice of the Barbuda Council, and one appointed independently by the Governor General.
