Tourism Minister Charles Fernandez says Antigua and Barbuda must move aggressively to capitalize on the strong momentum currently driving the country’s tourism sector as visitor arrivals continue to break records in 2026.
Speaking during activities surrounding the Caribbean Travel Marketplace, Fernandez said the country’s tourism growth reflects years of investment in infrastructure, marketing and partnerships between the public and private sectors.
The minister noted that Antigua and Barbuda’s tourism industry is no longer focused solely on increasing arrivals, but on improving the overall quality and value of the visitor experience.
“We want sustainable growth that benefits the people of Antigua and Barbuda,” Fernandez said, while pointing to ongoing luxury tourism developments, expanded cruise operations and increased airlift into the destination.
He said the hosting of the Caribbean Travel Marketplace for a second consecutive year places Antigua and Barbuda in a prime position to strengthen relationships with regional and international tourism stakeholders while showcasing the destination to major travel buyers.
Fernandez also praised local tourism workers and hospitality operators for helping the country maintain its reputation as one of the Caribbean’s leading tourism destinations.
The minister said government remains committed to continued investment in tourism infrastructure as the industry remains the country’s leading economic driver and employer.
