LETTER | History: Teens Down, Suspects Known, Yet No Answers

(top – bottom, l-r): Yenifer Bridge, Omari Lewis, Achazia James, Kahleel Simon, Brianna Clarke

Dear Editor,

History has repeated itself once again. Teenagers are killed, suspects are known, and yet justice continues to hang in the air like a broken chandelier, visible, but forever out of reach. By now, we already know how these stories begin, and sadly, we also know how they usually end. Is it prediction, or have we simply become too familiar with this painful cycle?

On March 26, 2026, shockwaves tore through the Villa community when 17-year-old Omari Lewis and 18-year-old Brianna Clarke were gunned down in broad daylight on Hanns Street. Police have since confirmed the arrest of two individuals, ages 19 and 24, yet the public remains in the dark. No charges have been announced, no meaningful updates provided, and once again, grieving families are left waiting for answers.

Let us take a walk down memory lane.

On June 28, 2024, the lifeless body of 16-year-old Yenifer Berenice Aquino Bridge was discovered along Fig Tree Drive. Hours later, her one-year-old son was found wandering alone on Jonas Road. To this day, many still ask the same haunting question: how did a toddler manage to travel that far unnoticed on such a busy roadway? We all know how Yenifer’s story went. If I remember correctly, you, Antigua.news even conducted an interview with her mother, who poured out her grief and frustration. Yet despite the public outrage and heartbreak, nothing meaningful has come from it, even though the suspected killer is widely known.

Then there is the heartbreaking case of 15-year-old Achazia James, whose body was discovered by beachgoers at Runaway Beach during the early morning hours of August 18, 2024. Again, the story sounds painfully familiar. The people believed to be responsible continue to walk freely while a grieving family struggles to cope with unimaginable loss. And again, you, Antigua.news, also highlighted that tragedy by speaking with Achazia’s mother, and for that, many were grateful. But awareness without justice still leaves wounds open.

And how can we forget August 27, 2025, in Bolans? Eighteen-year-old Kahleel Simon was killed on the very night he celebrated his 18th birthday. A teenager’s life ended before adulthood had even truly begun. The allegations surrounding his death shook the nation. And if I can recall, Antigua.news, your cameras were rolling, your mics were out as you speak to the family on multiple occasions, yet here we are, still waiting for justice.

My greatest concern is this: when will our teenagers finally be protected? When will justice come for the young lives stolen at the hands of others? When will authorities step forward and provide peace, closure, and accountability for families who are still crying, still grieving, and still searching for answers?

Are we becoming a country known for teenage killings? Or worse, a country known for injustice?

The families deserve clarity. The victims deserve justice. And the nation deserves answers.

    • They aren’t wrong though. Maybe you aren’t educated! Cause that’s exactly how the story went! Take a step back into the history of senseless youth killings in your country.
