Family, friends and residents turned out in large numbers to pay final respects to the three fishermen
An emotional candlelight vigil was held in Urlings a few nights ago, as residents of St. Mary’s South gathered to honour the memory of three fishermen who lost their lives at sea in a tragedy that deeply shook the community.
Family members, friends, community leaders and residents came together last week, in reflection for Devon Prince, known as “Grease Gun,” Adrian Pryce, called “Ivan,” and Carlton Pitt, also known as “Nagamootoo,” whose disappearance sparked days of concern and search efforts across Antigua and Barbuda.
The three men had departed Urlings on a fishing trip on March 11, but never returned, prompting growing alarm among relatives and community members. Search operations were later launched involving local authorities and support from those determined to locate the missing fishermen.

During the search effort, a significant discovery heightened fears surrounding their fate after an engine cover believed to be linked to the vessel was found at sea. The discovery added to concerns that the fishermen may have encountered serious trouble while out on the water.

Despite extensive efforts, search teams were ultimately forced to suspend operations after days of searching yielded no further breakthroughs. The decision to call off the search was met with heartbreak in Urlings and beyond, as many had continued holding onto hope for answers and a miracle.
Thursday night’s vigil reflected the pain and grief still gripping the community. Candles lit the darkness as prayers were offered, songs were sung and emotional tributes were shared for the three men remembered as hardworking and respected members of the community.
For many residents, the sea represents both livelihood and heritage, but during the gathering it also became a symbol of loss, sorrow and unanswered questions.
As candle flames flickered in the evening breeze, residents stood united in remembrance, paying tribute to three sons of the soil whose absence has left a lasting void in Urlings
