Cuba Embassy in Antigua Condemns New US Measures Against Its Country

HE Sergio Manuel Martínez González, Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba to Antigua and Barbuda

Successive US administrations have consistently sought to use the date of May 20th to announce new measures reinforcing the criminal economic blockade against Cuba and other actions in their aggressive policy against the Cuban people and their Revolution.

As a supposed gesture and attempt to maintain the political and financial support of the main representatives of the anti-Cuban mafia, the city of Miami, also a haven for notorious terrorists, has usually been chosen for these “announcements.”

Last May 20th, it was no exception. Following the instructions of the current occupant of the White House and his Secretary of State, the acting head of the Department of Justice announced with great fanfare the decision of the US Government to launch a spurious accusation against the Leader of the Cuban Revolution, Army General Raúl Castro Ruz, an accusation based on the totally dishonest manipulation of the events that caused the incident that led to the downing of two aircraft operated by the terrorist organization calling itself Brothers to the Rescue.

What is the true behind this vile manipulation of the facts and this despicable accusation, issued by the U.S. Department of Justice, more than 30 years after the incident, and after seven consecutive U.S. administrations, including President Trump’s first term?

This decision is a new escalation on the ongoing efforts of the Secretary of State, South Florida legislators, and other anti-Cuban groups in their attempts to find any pretext to justify and continue their inhumane economic warfare measures and to justify a military aggression against Cuba.

The cynicism and complete lack of ethics and respect for international law and principles knows no bounds among current US government officials.

This is the same government that, through a disproportionate use of military force, has extra judicially executed approximately 200 people and destroyed 57 vessels in international waters of the Caribbean and the Pacific, under accusations of alleged links to drug trafficking activities without any legal evidence.

If anyone should be brought to justice and tried by both US courts and international tribunals, it is precisely the members of the current US administration.

They are ultimately and solely responsible for the murder of over one hundred Iranian children, victims of criminal US bombings; and for the thousands of Palestinian children killed by Israeli troops with the full support of the US.

The Trump Administration, and especially its Secretary of State, are also responsible and must answer for the immense damage and suffering that their economic strangulation measures cause to the entire Cuban people.

As we have stated on numerous occasions, Cuba is a peace-loving country that does not consider itself an enemy of the United States. Cuba has never posed any kind of threat to United States national security.

But Cubans will exercise, at whatever cost, our inalienable right to defend the sacred principles of sovereignty and self-determination, free from any North American tutelage or domination.

We will never become a United State possession or another of its neocolonial domain.
