Four young Antiguan and Barbudan cricketers have arrived in the United Kingdom to begin stints with English club sides as part of the seventh cohort of the Antigua Exchange Programme, an initiative aimed at developing emerging talent through overseas cricket exposure.

The programme was developed through collaboration between Antigua and Barbuda’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Karen-Mae Hill, Keith and Chloe Williams of Keyworth Cricket Club in Nottingham, and former Sports Minister Daryll Matthew.

This year’s group includes Michael Greaves and Hilroy Andrew, who will play for Grantham Cricket Club; Mekaili Tonge, who joins Harrow St Mary’s Cricket Club; and Jedidiah Martin, who will represent Belvoir Cricket Club.

The four players will spend the next four months competing in UK league cricket, gaining exposure to higher levels of competition, structured training environments, and the professional standards of the English game. The programme has previously helped participants secure overseas contracts and return to the UK as registered players in later seasons.

Selection for the 2026 cohort was led by a panel including former West Indies fast bowler Winston Benjamin, alongside Hugh Smith and Essan Warner, who have been involved in identifying and supporting emerging talent in Antigua and Barbuda.

The High Commission also credited donors Ophir and Ann Chapman-Daniel for their continued financial support, which has helped sustain the exchange programme.

Before departure, the players underwent an orientation session led by Sports Commissioner Dr Colin Greene and Aldo McCoy, focusing on discipline, adaptation to UK conditions, and the responsibility of representing Antigua and Barbuda abroad.

High Commissioner Hill described the initiative as an important platform for youth development, noting that it not only strengthens cricketing skills but also builds character and international awareness among young athletes.

The Antigua and Barbuda High Commission in London wished the four players success as they begin their season in England, describing the programme as a growing bridge between Caribbean cricket development and opportunities in the United Kingdom.
