Health officials in Antigua and Barbuda have confirmed that one of two recently identified imported malaria cases resulted in the death of a visiting traveller.
The Ministry of Health says the overall risk to the public remains low despite confirmation of two imported malaria cases in Antigua and Barbuda.
One of two recently identified imported malaria cases resulted in the death of a visiting traveller.
During Friday’s press briefing, Health Minister Michael Joseph said both individuals had recently travelled from malaria-endemic regions before entering the country.
Officials noted that while the anopheles mosquito — the species capable of transmitting malaria — has been identified locally, surveillance data indicates its population remains limited.
As a precaution, the Central Board of Health has intensified fogging, larviciding, environmental inspections and mosquito monitoring activities in specific communities linked to the imported cases.
Residents are also being encouraged to eliminate standing water, clean drains and gutters regularly, and use mosquito repellents where necessary.
The ministry said public health teams continue to actively monitor the situation.

Thanks for the comforting words but someone died in your country. Come on!!
I really hope so
