Antigua To Reinstate Thermal Scanners At Airport Amid Global Health Concerns

The Government of Antigua and Barbuda is preparing to reinstall infrared thermal camera systems at V.C. Bird International Airport as part of heightened public health surveillance measures.

Health Minister Michael Joseph announced the move during a press conference on Friday while addressing concerns surrounding Ebola and other international health threats.

The thermal scanners are expected to form part of strengthened passenger screening procedures at the airport as authorities seek to enhance monitoring of incoming travellers.

Officials also confirmed that port health operations are being reinforced ahead of additional international flights from Nigeria scheduled to begin later this month.

The Ministry of Health said the measures are precautionary and stressed that Antigua and Barbuda currently has no confirmed or suspected Ebola cases.
