Festivals Commission Apologises After Queen of Carnival Selection Error

Ms. Jamona Samuel

The Antigua and Barbuda Festivals Commission has issued a public apology to Ms. Jamona Samuel after an administrative error led to her mistakenly being informed that she had been selected to compete in the 2026 Queen of Carnival pageant.

In a statement released on Sunday, the Commission confirmed that following the completion of the screening process, an official congratulatory message was incorrectly sent to Samuel, advising her that she had secured a place in the prestigious competition.

The Commission acknowledged that the communication was sent in error and expressed regret over the disappointment and emotional distress caused by the incident.

Officials said the situation fell below the level of professionalism and care that participants deserve, particularly given the significance of the Queen of Carnival platform and the preparation and commitment shown by young women who apply each year.

“The Commission takes full responsibility for this error and offers its sincerest apology to Ms. Samuel for the impact this incident has had on her experience,” the statement said.

The Festivals Commission also noted that steps are being taken to strengthen internal communication and operational procedures in an effort to improve accuracy, efficiency, and accountability moving forward.

The organisation further thanked Samuel for raising her concerns and reiterated its apology over the matter.

  1. That apology wouldn’t suffice. That’s carelessness and must have affect the woman mentally

    • What more should they do over an administrative error. Is she so fragile that she can’t recognise a mistake? Why is this even a news article anyway? We live in a technological age and mistakes happen!
