National Security Surveillance Network Expanded with Over 200 Cameras to Boost Public Safety

The Government has expressed support for an expanded national surveillance programme aimed at strengthening public safety and improving the country’s crime prevention and detection capacity.

The update was presented by the Minister responsible for Information and Communication Technologies, Melford Nicholas, who reported that the Royal Police Force has already begun installing security cameras at strategic locations across the country.

The installation programme will roll out in phases over the coming months, with more than 200 cameras expected to be deployed nationwide. Key areas have been identified to ensure broad coverage and improved monitoring of public spaces.

Officials say the initiative is designed to enhance the use of modern technology in policing and national security operations. The system is expected to support criminal investigations, assist with traffic management, and improve coordination during emergency responses.

Cabinet welcomed the development and reiterated the importance of equipping law enforcement agencies with modern tools to better safeguard communities and protect property.

The project forms part of a wider national strategy to modernize security infrastructure and strengthen public confidence in safety measures across the country.
