WIOC Conducts Comprehensive Emergency Response Exercise to Strengthen Safety Readiness
West Indies Oil Company (WIOC) last week carried out a comprehensive Emergency Response Exercise aimed at assessing and improving the company’s preparedness and response capabilities in the event of an emergency.
The exercise formed part of WIOC’s ongoing commitment to maintaining the safety of its employees, neighboring communities, and the environment through continuous training, evaluation, and collaboration with national emergency response agencies.

The initiative began with intensive Incident Command Training involving WIOC’s executive and management teams. Participants were trained in effective crisis communication, strategic decision-making, execution of emergency protocols, operational evaluation, and adaptation of response strategies in rapidly evolving situations.
WIOC also partnered with the Antigua and Barbuda Fire Department and the National Office of Disaster Services (NODS) in a familiarization exercise designed to strengthen coordination between internal and external emergency response teams.

The engagement allowed emergency personnel to become more familiar with WIOC’s operational procedures, emergency response systems, and the first phase of the company’s fire suppression system upgrades.

The exercise culminated in a full-scale emergency simulation that tested multiple components of WIOC’s emergency response framework. The simulation evaluated the identification of threats, alarm activation procedures, internal emergency response times, and coordination with external agencies including the Fire Department, Police, and Emergency Medical Services (EMS).
According to WIOC, the exercise provided valuable opportunities to assess operational readiness, improve communication systems, and enhance collaboration among all agencies involved in emergency response operations.

The company also expressed appreciation to all stakeholders who contributed to the successful execution of the exercise.
“WIOC extends sincere thanks to the Antigua and Barbuda Fire Department, the Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda, Emergency Medical Services, NODS, volunteering employees, and residents in surrounding communities for their cooperation, support, and understanding throughout the exercise,” the company stated.
WIOC reaffirmed that safety remains one of the company’s highest priorities and emphasized that exercises of this nature are critical to ensuring effective emergency preparedness and response capabilities.
The company further noted its continued investment in safety systems, infrastructure upgrades, and personnel training as part of its broader commitment to responsible operations in Antigua and Barbuda.

These little excersizes are very important so lets give WIOC a hand clap for this
This is the kind of preparation we need more of in Antigua. Emergencies can happen at any time, so it’s good to see WIOC taking safety seriously
Well i will say this. This gives me confidence knowing companies handling fuel and energy are constantly testing their response systems
I hope they took the exercise seriously and wasn’t laughing like clowns. I love how WIOC take safety seriously
