According to information obtained, the young man was among a group of three fishermen who had gone spearfishing when the incident occurred. During the outing, he was reportedly attacked by a shark, resulting in severe injuries to one of his hands.
Sources familiar with the incident said the victim’s hand was nearly severed during the attack. Fellow fishermen rushed to assist him before he was transported for emergency medical treatment. His current condition has not been officially disclosed, but he remains hospitalized.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the fishing community in Urlings, where fishermen say shark sightings have become increasingly common in recent months.
Several fishermen from the area told Antigua.news that they have observed a growing number of sharks in waters frequently used for fishing and diving activities.
Some expressed concern that the increased sightings may pose a heightened risk to those who rely on the sea for their livelihood.
The latest attack has renewed calls for greater awareness among fishermen and recreational divers operating in coastal waters around the island.
Authorities have not yet released an official statement on the incident, and it remains unclear what species of shark was involved.

I hope his hand will soon be functioning well. I’m very glad to read that three went out together as it’s so much safer than going out alone.
