Census Office Steps Up Field Operations with Deployment of Additional Enumerators

The Census Office has ramped up efforts to complete the 2025 Population and Housing Census with the deployment of a second cohort of enumerators who will begin fieldwork across parts of Antigua this week.

Starting Monday, residents in and around the Greenbay Primary School community are expected to receive visits from Census Enumerators conducting interviews and gathering information from households and businesses as part of the nationwide exercise.

The expanded deployment comes as census activities resume following a temporary suspension during the recent General Elections. Officials say the addition of more field staff represents another major step toward achieving a complete and accurate count of the country’s population and housing stock.

The Population and Housing Census is conducted once every decade and serves as one of the government’s most important data-gathering exercises. Information collected is used to guide national development policies and determine the allocation of resources in sectors such as healthcare, education, housing, employment, transportation, and infrastructure.

Census officials are appealing to the public to cooperate fully with enumerators and provide accurate information when interviewed. They have also reassured residents that all information collected is protected under the Statistics Act and will be treated with strict confidentiality.

To help members of the public identify legitimate census workers, enumerators will be wearing official census vests and carrying Census-issued identification cards. They will also be equipped with tablets, census bags, and authorization letters from the Census Office.

In addition to field operations, officials are increasing public awareness efforts through appearances on radio, television, and other media platforms during the coming week. The engagements are intended to answer questions from residents, explain the census process, and provide updates on the progress of the exercise.

The Census Office thanked the public for its patience and continued support, noting that the success of the census depends heavily on the participation of every household and business.

The 2025 Population and Housing Census is being conducted under the theme, “Mapping the Present, Shaping the Future,” reflecting its role in helping policymakers and planners make informed decisions for the country’s future development.
