A Fort Road man has been sentenced to six years behind bars for his role in the armed robbery of three elderly visitors at the Mill Reef Club more than four years ago.

According to Wadadli Case Files, Marlon Carr received the sentence from Justice Ann Marie Smith last week after being convicted on three counts of aggravated robbery following a judge-alone trial in March.

The charges arose from an incident on April 6, 2022, when three victims, all in their seventies, were targeted while relaxing under a cabana at a Mill Reef Club property. The court heard that the victims were held at knifepoint, separated from one another, bound with duct tape, and robbed of cash, jewellery, iPhones, iPads and other valuables.

Carr was one of three men initially charged in connection with the robbery.

His co-accused, Rickardo Bussawan, pleaded guilty to all three counts in 2024 and was subsequently sentenced to eight years in prison. Charges against a third accused man, Delon Wills, were later withdrawn.

According to Wadadli Case Files, prosecutors relied heavily on statements Carr gave to police investigators following his arrest.

Evidence presented during the trial showed that Carr initially told police he had travelled to the Mill Reef area to meet a female friend attending a party and had remained in his vehicle before eventually leaving.

However, his account later changed during the same interview.

Carr admitted that he had driven friends to the property and became impatient while waiting for them. He said he eventually walked toward the area and saw people gathered near the pool.

He further acknowledged helping to restrain one of the victims after she attempted to flee and fell to the ground.

In his statement, Carr maintained that he panicked and left the scene shortly afterward. He insisted that he did not carry a knife, did not wear a mask, and did not receive any share of the stolen property. However, he admitted believing that the other men involved were armed.

Justice Smith ultimately found the evidence sufficient to convict Carr on all three counts of aggravated robbery, leading to the six-year prison sentence handed down last week.

The robbery attracted significant public attention because of the age of the victims and the violent nature of the attack. Carr is now expected to serve the prison term imposed by the court.
