Attorneys Joanne Massiah and Samantha Marshall have officially been appointed Ambassadors-at-Large for Antigua and Barbuda following a swearing-in ceremony at Government House on Monday.

The ceremony, attended by more than 100 invited guests, marked the formal presentation of their instruments of appointment, entrusting both women with key diplomatic responsibilities on behalf of the nation.

Marshall, a former Member of Parliament for St. Mary’s South under the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP), and Massiah, who served in the Lower House of Parliament during a United Progressive Party (UPP) administration, bring decades of combined experience in law, governance and public service to their new roles.

As Ambassadors-at-Large, neither woman will be assigned to a specific diplomatic mission. Instead, they will undertake special assignments and represent Antigua and Barbuda across multiple jurisdictions, advancing the country’s interests on the international stage.

Their responsibilities include strengthening bilateral and multilateral relationships, participating in regional and international forums, and supporting diplomatic initiatives aimed at enhancing Antigua and Barbuda’s development and global standing.

Deputy Governor General, His Excellency Sir Clare Roberts, welcomed the newly appointed ambassadors and reminded them of the significance of the office they now hold.

“This is an office of trust, dignity and responsibility,” Sir Clare said. “You are called upon to represent the interests and values of Antigua and Barbuda. It demands sound judgment, discretion and patriotism.”

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Barbuda Affairs, E.P. Chet Greene, praised both appointees, highlighting their extensive experience in public affairs and legal practice.

“Their backgrounds will help them navigate the very complex diplomatic terrain that we are in today,” Greene said, adding that their legal expertise and governance experience will be valuable assets as they undertake their diplomatic duties.

The appointments signal the government’s confidence in both women and underscore Antigua and Barbuda’s continued efforts to strengthen its diplomatic engagement and representation internationally.
