The Environmental Awareness Group (EAG) has announced two senior leadership appointments as the organization continues to strengthen its conservation efforts and environmental programmes across Antigua and Barbuda.

Monifa Thomas has been appointed Executive Director, while Joshel Wilson will assume the role of Antigua Marine Conservation Programme Coordinator.

Thomas, who has been with the organization for the past three years as Accountant, brings extensive institutional knowledge and experience to her new position. The EAG said her work has provided her with a deep understanding of the organization’s operations, culture, and long-term vision.

Board President Jermaine Jarvis described Thomas as a natural choice to lead the organization into its next phase of development.

“Monifa’s experience within the organization and her strategic focus make her the ideal person to lead the EAG forward,” Jarvis said. “Her commitment to the organization and understanding of its work will help strengthen our impact and ensure continued growth in environmental conservation and community engagement.”

Speaking on her appointment, Thomas said she was honoured to take on the role and looked forward to continuing the organization’s work alongside its staff, partners and stakeholders.

“Having worked within the organization for a few years, I deeply value the work we do and the difference we continue to make throughout Antigua and Barbuda and beyond,” she said. “I look forward to working alongside our dedicated staff, partners, and communities as we continue advancing environmental protection and sustainability initiatives.”

The organization also acknowledged the contributions of former Executive Director Dr. Mareba Scott, thanking her for her service and wishing her success in her future endeavours.

In a second appointment, the EAG named Joshel Wilson as its new Antigua Marine Conservation Programme Coordinator.

Wilson previously served as Wildlife Officer and played a key role in several conservation projects and field initiatives. In his new capacity, he will oversee marine conservation programmes aimed at protecting the country’s marine ecosystems, supporting environmental education and encouraging greater community involvement in conservation efforts.

Jarvis said Wilson’s promotion reflects both his dedication and professional growth within the organization.

“Joshel has consistently demonstrated commitment and passion in his work as Wildlife Officer,” he said. “This appointment represents a natural progression in his career, and we are excited to see him take on this expanded leadership role within the organization.”

Wilson said he was grateful for the opportunity to continue contributing to the EAG’s mission.

“Serving as Wildlife Officer gave me valuable experience in conservation work and community engagement, and I look forward to building on that foundation as Antigua Marine Conservation Programme Coordinator,” he said. “I am excited to contribute even further to the protection and sustainable management of our marine environment.”

The appointments come as the Environmental Awareness Group continues its work in biodiversity conservation, environmental education, ecosystem restoration and sustainable development throughout Antigua and Barbuda.
