The Reginald Gordon Trust has donated EC$25,000 to Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre (SLBMC), continuing its longstanding commitment to supporting pediatric patients who require specialized medical care that is not currently available at the hospital.

The contribution will assist children and their families in accessing critical consultations, diagnostic investigations, and treatments beyond the services presently offered by SLBMC, helping to bridge gaps in care when highly specialized interventions are needed.

Chair of Pediatrics at SLBMC, Dr. Saleem Hughes, said the donation will have a direct and meaningful impact on young patients and their families.

“For many families, navigating a serious illness in a child can be overwhelming, particularly when highly specialized care is required,” Dr. Hughes said.

“The continued support of the Reginald Gordon Trust helps bridge that gap by giving children access to specialized care and interventions that are not currently available through our hospital. These are often life-changing interventions, and we are deeply grateful for this continued investment in the health and well-being of our children.”

SLBMC Social Worker, Chanier Moore, said the assistance provides much-needed relief to families already facing emotional and financial strain.

“Medical crises are incredibly hard not only on a family’s heart but also on their finances,” Moore said. “I see firsthand the stress and uncertainty families experience when a child needs specialized care beyond what is available through our hospital. Support from the Reginald Gordon Trust helps lift some of that burden and allows parents to focus on what matters most: their child’s health and recovery.”

Head of Marketing and Communications at SLBMC, Salma Crump, said the donation reflects the enduring spirit of generosity established by the late Reginald Gordon.

“The Reginald Gordon Trust has been a valued partner of the hospital for many years, and we are grateful to the Trustee for continuing this remarkable legacy of giving,” Crump said. “Donations like these, together with the support of many other generous individuals and organizations, help us fulfill our mission of providing compassionate, high-quality care to the people of Antigua and Barbuda.”

She added that community support remains one of the hospital’s greatest strengths and expressed appreciation for the confidence donors continue to place in the institution.

Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre extended its sincere gratitude to the Trustee of the Reginald Gordon Trust for its continued generosity and commitment to improving the lives of children and families across Antigua and Barbuda.
