Prime Minister Gaston Browne touring Booby Alley
Cabinet has approved additional measures to expand affordable home ownership as Government continues work on several major housing developments across Antigua and Barbuda.
Prime Minister Gaston Browne updated Cabinet on the Booby Alley Housing Project, revealing plans for a comprehensive management structure that will oversee maintenance, administration, sewage management and solar energy systems within the development.
Cabinet also agreed that new housing developments planned for Bolans and Barbuda will operate under the Government’s Social Housing Programme through rent-to-own arrangements.
The initiative is intended to help families gradually transition into home ownership while providing mortgage financing through the National Housing Programme for applicants unable to qualify for commercial bank loans.
The Bolans and Barbuda developments, being undertaken with support from the Government of the People’s Republic of China, represent an investment of approximately US$20 million.
Government says the programme forms part of its broader commitment to expanding access to affordable, resilient and sustainable housing.
