
Geolyna Dowdye and Soniya Jones delivered a double podium finish for Antigua and Barbuda at the 2026 OECS Track and Field Championships, claiming silver and bronze respectively in the women’s 100 metres at the Kim Collins Athletics Stadium in St. Kitts.
Dowdye powered to second place in 11.47 seconds, while Jones followed closely in 11.65 seconds to secure third, as both athletes held their form in a tightly contested final that brought the crowd to its feet.
The race was won by Saint Lucia’s Jady Emmanuel, who crossed the line in 11.39 seconds to take gold and edge a competitive regional field.
Beyond the podium finishes, the moment carried added significance for the Antigua and Barbuda team during the medal ceremony, where both athletes were presented with their medals by national sprint legend Daniel “Bakka” Bailey. Bailey, who still holds the OECS Championships 100m record of 10.19 seconds set in 2014, was met with warm applause as he shared the stage with the next generation of sprinters.
The results added to Antigua and Barbuda’s growing momentum at the championships, as the team continued to secure medals across both track and field events.
Officials and supporters alike noted the importance of the performances, which highlighted the country’s continued strength in sprinting and its ability to remain competitive on the regional stage.
