Antigua and Barbuda has taken another significant step toward strengthening its agricultural sector with the official opening of the country’s new Plant Tissue Culture Laboratory, a modern facility designed to advance scientific research, improve crop production, and enhance national food security.

The laboratory, officially commissioned on Tuesday, represents a major investment in agricultural innovation and reflects the government’s ongoing commitment to building a more resilient and sustainable food system.
The facility was established through a collaborative partnership between the Government of Antigua and Barbuda and the People’s Republic of China, combining international cooperation with local expertise to expand the nation’s agricultural capabilities.

The new laboratory will play a vital role in the propagation of disease-free planting materials, agricultural research, and the training of technical personnel. Plant tissue culture technology allows for the rapid multiplication of healthy, high-quality plants, helping farmers increase productivity while improving crop resilience.
