Protesting Ministry of Works employees return to work
Heavy-duty truckers employed at the Ministry of Works who blocked roads on Tuesday morning in protest over outstanding payments have returned to work after meeting with the ministry’s management.
In a statement issued Tuesday, the Ministry of Works said management responded swiftly to the concerns and engaged the employees in constructive discussions, providing assurances that the matters raised are already being actively addressed.
Following the meeting, the workers resumed their duties. The ministry also expressed appreciation to its employees for their continued dedication and reaffirmed its commitment to supporting its workforce.
“The Ministry reiterates its sincere appreciation for its hardworking team members and its continued commitment to fully supporting them as we advance our mission to transform infrastructure in Antigua and Barbuda,” the statement said.
Earlier Tuesday, access to the Ministry of Works compound on Denry Lane was temporarily disrupted after government vehicles blocked the entrance as workers sought answers regarding outstanding concerns. The matter has since been resolved, and normal operations have resumed.

Hopefully the commitments made will now be honored.
