Antiguan cultural icon Sir Clarence Leonard Emmanuel Edwards has announced the cancellation of all his scheduled performances and public appearances for Carnival 2026 after suffering what he described as a recent medical emergency that required immediate hospitalization and treatment.

In an official statement released on Wednesday, Edwards said the difficult decision was made after consulting with his medical team, who have advised him to refrain from all performance-related activities for at least four to six weeks.

“Following a comprehensive evaluation, physicians have advised that I refrain from all performance-related activities for a minimum of four to six weeks,” the statement read. “This recommendation has been made in the interest of protecting my health and ensuring a safe return to the stage.”

The announcement means Edwards, a celebrated figure in Antigua and Barbuda’s cultural landscape and a key member of Red Hot & Burning Flames, will not participate in this year’s Carnival festivities, a season during which he has traditionally been a crowd favourite.

Edwards acknowledged the disappointment his absence will cause to fans, event promoters and partners, describing the decision as one that “was not easily made.”

“I deeply value every opportunity to perform, especially during the carnival season that is fast approaching, and sincerely regret the disappointment this news may bring,” he said.

Despite the setback, Edwards expressed optimism about making a full recovery and returning to the stage once doctors determine it is safe for him to do so.

He also thanked supporters for the outpouring of concern and encouragement following his hospitalization.

“I am incredibly grateful for the unwavering support, understanding, and kindness shown during this time,” he said. “While taking time away from the stage is difficult, the focus must remain on recovery.”

The statement did not disclose the nature of the medical emergency or provide additional details about his condition.

Edwards concluded by expressing appreciation to fans for their patience, saying their encouragement “means more than words can express” as he focuses on recovering before resuming public performances.
