The CHOGM National Taskforce has launched an ambitious public art initiative that will transform ordinary wooden doors into a vibrant exhibition celebrating the diversity of the Commonwealth while showcasing the artistic talent of Antigua and Barbuda.

The project, titled Dual Thresholds, forms part of the country’s preparations to host the 2026 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM). Organisers say the exhibition will serve as both a cultural showcase and a lasting legacy of the international summit.

The installation will comprise 28 freestanding, double-sided doors, creating 56 individual canvases, one for each member state of the Commonwealth. Each piece will be designed by Antiguan and Barbudan artists, drawing inspiration from the nation’s landscapes, heritage, history, ecology and material culture while reflecting the shared values and connections of the Commonwealth family.

The initiative was officially unveiled during Art Week, hosted by the Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority, where members of the public got a first glimpse of the exhibition through two completed doors.

The featured works were created by acclaimed local artists Heather Doram and Dylan Elias Phillips, whose distinctive styles highlighted the creativity and cultural depth that organisers hope will define the full exhibition.

To complete the project, the National Taskforce has launched a nationwide Door Donation Drive, appealing to homeowners, businesses, hotels, schools, contractors and construction companies to donate new or gently used wooden doors.

According to the Taskforce, every donated door will become part of the public installation, allowing individuals and organisations to contribute directly to a national project that will remain as a cultural landmark beyond CHOGM 2026.
