2023 Junior Carnival
The Antigua and Barbuda Festivals Commission has postponed the 2026 Junior Carnival parade because of adverse weather conditions affecting the island.
The event, which had been scheduled for Sunday, July 26, will now take place on Wednesday, July 29, beginning at 1:00 p.m., after officials determined that continuing rainfall and ongoing thunderstorm activity posed safety concerns for participants and spectators.
According to the Commission, the decision followed careful assessment of both current and forecast weather conditions, including the impact of heavy rainfall on the parade route and surrounding areas.
“The safety and well-being of our children and the public remain our highest priority,” the Commission said, noting that postponing the event was the most prudent course of action.
The Commission acknowledged the extensive preparations made by parents, children, mas’ groups, organizers and other stakeholders, expressing regret for any inconvenience caused by the postponement.
Officials also thanked the public for their patience, understanding and cooperation, emphasizing that the decision was made in the interest of public safety. The Festivals Commission said it looks forward to welcoming children and families on Wednesday for a safe and enjoyable Junior Carnival celebration.
Idk if it’s just me, but putting kids in half-scantish clothing/costumes or whatever you call it, and having them hear certain types of music for the purpose of dancing up to is kind-of deplorable to me, maybe just me.
At the least, hope they’re safe whenever it’s done, if that’s the actual main concern anyway… why let em experience this during their developmental years but eh..
