The University of the West Indies (UWI) Five Islands Campus and the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology are strengthening their partnership as both institutions work to expand access to higher education and support the continued growth of the campus.
The commitment was reinforced during a meeting on Friday, July 24, between UWI Five Islands Campus Principal Professor C. Justin Robinson, Campus Registrar Dr. Camille Samuel, Campus Bursar Danielle Benjamin, and Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Ena Dalso Henry.
The discussions centered on the campus’s ongoing development and efforts to make higher education more accessible to Antiguans and Barbudans while enhancing the university’s contribution to national and regional development.
Officials also reviewed progress on the UWI Five Islands Campus Expansion Project, which is expected to increase the institution’s capacity and strengthen its teaching, learning and research capabilities.
During the meeting, Dalso Henry encouraged continued collaboration between the ministry and the university, emphasizing the importance of maintaining open communication to identify opportunities where both parties can work together to improve students’ access to education and research.
She also expressed appreciation to Professor Robinson and his team for their leadership and acknowledged the value of the longstanding partnership between the Ministry of Education and UWI Five Islands.
The university said the meeting reaffirmed a shared commitment to investing in education and ensuring that the campus continues to serve as a key driver of academic excellence and national development.
As the Five Islands Campus continues to expand, both the government and the university say they remain focused on creating greater opportunities for students while strengthening Antigua and Barbuda’s role as a regional hub for higher education.
