The Ministry of Tourism has pledged its continued support to the family of Beach Safety and Security Officer Kevon Warner following his sudden death while on duty earlier this week.

In a statement issued on Friday, the ministry said it remains deeply saddened by Warner’s passing, describing him as a dedicated public servant whose commitment to protecting lives on Antigua and Barbuda’s beaches left a lasting impact.

Warner joined the Beach Safety and Security Unit in 2010 and spent more than 15 years serving both residents and visitors. The ministry said his professionalism, dedication and unwavering commitment to public safety earned him the respect and appreciation of colleagues and the wider community.

In the days following the tragedy, Permanent Secretary Sean Cenac met with Warner’s family alongside members of the Beach Safety and Security Unit’s management team. During the meeting, officials provided relatives with a detailed account of the circumstances surrounding the incident, including the actions taken by fellow officers and the emergency response that followed.

According to the ministry, the family welcomed the opportunity to receive a full briefing and expressed satisfaction that established operational protocols, emergency response measures and safety procedures were followed throughout the incident.

The ministry said it remains committed to maintaining transparency and will continue to keep the family informed as any additional information becomes available. Officials also pledged to provide every possible measure of support to Warner’s loved ones during their time of grief.

Tourism Minister Charles Fernandez, who is currently overseas on official government business, also extended his condolences to Warner’s family and colleagues, acknowledging his years of dedicated service to the nation.

Warner’s death has been met with an outpouring of sympathy from across Antigua and Barbuda, with many remembering him as a committed beach safety officer who faithfully carried out his duties in service to the public. His passing has left a deep void within the Beach Safety and Security Unit and among those who worked alongside him for more than a decade.
