
Police and Customs officers have seized approximately 11 pounds of cannabis valued at EC$66,000 during a joint operation at V.C. Bird International Airport.
The discovery was made on Wednesday, August 19, during a drug interdiction operation involving the Police and Customs Enforcement Unit.
According to police, officers discovered a brown cardboard box containing 11 vacuum-sealed packages of vegetable material suspected to be cannabis.
The packages were seized and taken to Police Headquarters, where the substance was weighed as part of the ongoing investigation.
Police said the suspected cannabis weighed approximately 11 pounds and carries an estimated street value of EC$66,000.
The Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda said it continues to work closely with Customs and other law enforcement agencies to strengthen security at the country’s borders and disrupt the illegal trafficking of controlled substances.
No arrests have been announced in connection with the seizure.
Investigations are continuing.
