The artists helping to shape Antigua and Barbuda’s creative landscape are being placed in the spotlight ahead of this year’s Antigua and Barbuda Art Week.
With the November event now just two months away, the Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority has launched a new “Meet the Artists” video series, giving the public a closer look at the people behind some of the country’s artwork.
More than 10 professional, self-taught and emerging artists are expected to be featured, sharing their inspirations, creative processes, individual styles and the stories behind their work.
The first four episodes introduce visual artists Heather Doram, Makŏ Williams, Mark Brown and Dylan E. Phillips.
Their work will also feature prominently when Art Week gets underway from November 11 to 18.
Williams’ Makŏ Fine Art Gallery will host “Out of the Krokus Bag,” an eight-day programme presented by the Rootz Krokus Collective. The programme will feature exhibitions, performances, workshops, demonstrations and conversations centred on Antiguan life and ancestral traditions.
Doram and Phillips will contribute to “Dual Thresholds,” an interactive public art installation, while Brown is organising an exhibition featuring work by current and former Art and Design students of the Antigua and Barbuda College of Advanced Studies.
The Tourism Authority said a new artist will be introduced every Wednesday through its digital platforms as the countdown to Art Week continues.
This year’s programme will begin with “Symphony of Colours” at historic Redcliffe Quay, bringing together local art, music and culture.
Other activities planned for the week include Art Trails, Art and Culture Bus Tours, exhibitions, gallery events, public art installations, workshops and live creative experiences.
Organisers are promoting the celebration under the banner “Culture in Colour,” with residents and visitors being encouraged to explore Antigua and Barbuda through the work of its creative community.
