Antigua and Barbuda could be in line to host the biggest games of the Caribbean Premier League in 2027, with Cabinet now seriously examining whether the country should submit a formal bid for the tournament’s finals.

The disclosure came Thursday from Director General for Communications in the Prime Minister’s Office, Maurice Merchant, who said the proposal is being given serious consideration following the Falcons’ title-winning campaign in the 2026 Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League.

“Against this backdrop of this victory, Cabinet discussed the possibility of Antigua and Barbuda submitting a bid to host the CPL Finals in 2027,” Merchant said.

He said Cabinet will examine the proposal in greater detail, including what would be required to stage the final phase of one of the Caribbean’s premier sporting events.

“So Cabinet indicated that the proposal is being seriously contemplated and will be examined in greater details, including the requirements for staging the final phase of one of the Caribbean’s premier sporting events,” Merchant explained.

The possibility of hosting the finals comes at a significant moment for Antigua and Barbuda cricket, with the Antigua and Barbuda Falcons having captured the 2026 CPL title in a historic achievement for the franchise.

Cabinet has praised the team’s performance, describing the championship as a proud moment for the country while extending congratulations to the players, coaching staff, management and others associated with the Falcons.

A decision on whether Antigua and Barbuda will formally enter a bid has not yet been announced. Cabinet is expected to first assess the requirements and considerations involved in hosting the tournament’s final stage before determining the way forward.

If the bid proceeds, Antigua and Barbuda would be seeking to turn the momentum of the Falcons’ championship success into an opportunity to bring the CPL’s decisive matches to home soil in 2027.
