Traffic stop sparks probe into suspicious tint exemption letter
Motorists with illegally tinted vehicles are being urged to remove the tint voluntarily as police prepare to step up enforcement.
At Wednesday’s meeting, Cabinet reiterated its instruction for police to act against vehicles that do not meet legal tint requirements.
It said officers should use their available powers to impound non-compliant vehicles and send them to the Government Motor Pool for assessment and removal of the tint.
Cabinet was advised that processing a vehicle at the Motor Pool would take at least two weeks.
The government encouraged drivers to check that their vehicles comply with the law rather than risk losing access to them while the work is carried out.
The renewed instruction formed part of wider discussions with police leadership about visible enforcement and the government’s response to crime.
