Opposition Member of Parliament for St. Mary’s South Kelvin “Shugy” Simon
In the midst of our sorrow, our community’s spirit remains unbroken. I am deeply saddened by the tragic loss of Chantel Crump, a bright and beloved 9-year-old student of Five Islands School. Her life was taken far too soon, and the pain of this loss is immeasurable. Yet, in our grief, we must come together to support one another and ensure that her memory is honored with love, strength, and unity.
As a dedicated school counselor, I am offering my services to the students, staff, and families of Five Islands School. Through group and individual counseling sessions, I will help our children navigate their emotions, process their grief, and find resilience in the face of this heartbreaking tragedy. No child should have to bear such pain alone, and I am committed to ensuring they have a safe space to heal.
Beyond immediate support, I am also committed to strengthening emotional and psychological resources in our schools by:
• Collaborating with the Ministry of Education to expand school counseling services so every child has access to professional support.
• Empowering teachers with trauma-informed training to help them guide students through grief with care and understanding.
• Establishing a 24/7 helpline in partnership with mental health professionals, ensuring that help is always available for children and parents in need.
Let us honor Chantel’s memory by standing together in compassion and love. In her name, we will work to build a community where every child feels safe, heard, and supported. If you or your child need help, please reach out.
A caring Government must embrace this call and expand on it if necessary. The Country is ours and we must work for the sustainable good for all.
If it is the only time these politicians are uniting it is now and I am happy about this.
