A Gray’s Farm man has been sentenced to over four years in prison after authorities discovered him in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition during a routine patrol.

Akeem Brookes received concurrent sentences earlier today from Magistrate Ngaio Emanuel following his guilty plea to weapons charges.

The court imposed a sentence of four years, three months and 29 days for the illegal firearm, with a concurrent one-year term for ammunition possession.

Law enforcement officers apprehended Brookes on March 30 near Hoppers playing field when his behaviour drew their attention during a routine patrol.

A subsequent search revealed a .32 Walther pistol concealed in his clothing, loaded with one round in the chamber and six additional bullets in the magazine.
