Mahendra Paltoo also known as ‘Ajai’ of Bloomfield New Scheme, Corentyne, Berbice has confessed to killing his 30-year-old housewife Oma Devi Virasamy on Sunday night.
She succumbed to her injuries hours after being chopped by her reputed husband.
Following his confession to the police, Paltoo was placed in police custody and is said to be assisting with investigations.
According to reports, at approximately 7:00 pm on Sunday an argument erupted between the couple when Virasamy accused Paltoo of being unfaithful.
Virsamy allegedly pushed Paltoo who then armed himself with a cutlass and proceeded to chop her on several parts of her body including her right ankle and under her left eye.
She was not taken to the hospital and hours later, she succumbed.
Prior to his arrest, he told police that on the day of the incident, Virasamy was “making up the bed” for their baby and she “slipped and fell” on a cutlass that was hidden between the two mattresses which he said was responsible for her injuries.
He said he wrapped the wounds and she went to bed but that around 4:40 pm when he got up, he discovered her motionless on the bed.
