Health Minister Molwyn Joseph has congratulated Antigua and Barbuda’s former Chief Executive Officer, Dr Rhonda Sealey Thomas, on her latest appointment.
Dr. Sealey-Thomas, the country’s former Chief Medical Officer (CMO) has been recently appointed as the Assistant Director of the Pan American Health Organization.
Sir Molwyn who will introduce Dr Sealey Thomas at her inauguration carded for October 12 in Washington, said the entire population should be proud of this latest achievement.
“That job is a big job. She is head of the technical aspect of PAHO which is most of the work. Antigua should be extremely proud”, he said
Dr. Sealey-Thomas is a native of Antigua and Barbuda and completed her Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degree from the University of the West Indies in 1998.
She also holds a Master of Public Health degree, which she earned in 2005, and a Doctorate in Public Health from the Mona campus in Jamaica in 2020.
Dr. Sealey-Thomas started her career as a Medical Officer of Health for the Ministry of Health in Antigua and Barbuda where she managed a diverse range of healthcare professionals from 2000 to 2004.
She then took on a more crucial role as the Chief Medical Officer from 2005 to 2023. In this position, she provided essential advice on significant public health issues, led several national health committees, and represented the government on various regional and international platforms.
