Christopher Hope, of Cashew Hill, has been charged and fined a hefty sum of $25,000 for possessing a firearm and ammunition unlawfully.

The All Saints Magistrate’s Court convicted the 39-year-old on Monday for being in possession of one .380 Pistol and 10 matching rounds of ammunition.

The presiding Magistrate, Ngaio Emmanuel, delivered the verdict, imposing a fine of $15,000 for the firearm and $1,000 for each round of ammunition.

Hope has been given 6 months to pay the firearm fine, failing which he will have to serve a sentence of 15 months.

The fine for the ammunition must be paid within 9 months, failing which he will have to serve a sentence of 1 year at His Majesty’s Prison.

The arrest was made following an investigation conducted by police officers attached to the Coolidge Police Station.

The investigation was initiated after a report was made against Hope. The officers found the firearm in his possession at Jabberwock Beach on Saturday, following which he was apprehended and taken into custody.
