LISTEN: Public School Teachers in Antigua Protest Over Retroactive Pay

You can now listen to Antigua News articles!

Teachers at all government primary, secondary, and tertiary schools are protesting, as advised by their union, due to dissatisfaction over the lack of retroactive pay.

Despite having attended school, they have chosen to set down their chalk and dusters.

Sharon Kelsick, the General Secretary of the Antigua and Barbuda Teachers Union, told Antigua.news that the action will continue until all teachers who are owed retroactive pay receive their money.

The new academic year opened on Monday.

So under what name are these new thugs parading? With the continuing poor and under performance of our students at all levels of the public school system, how dare they demand that taxpayers dig deeper in tge public purse to satisfy their cravings. Once again, these thugs are encouraging the spread of delinquency among the youth. If teaching doesn’t satisfy your financial needs, then quit and find one that fits your needs and expertise. Time to remove the teaching profession from the hands of thugs and restore it to its right place

You are part of the delinquency problem in Antigua. Teachers are not complaining about being underpaid. They are fighting for monies that THEY HAVE WORKED FOR that remain unpaid. I’m sure you would have left any job that you had to wait 5 years or more to get your right pay and await the HOPE of getting what was due to you. MOE continues to disrespectfully lie to teachers about their payments and it is about time something be done about it.

Not the first time I’m hearing about teachers being underpaid, this happens all around the world, it’s disappointing how nothing has yet to change. Children are very much a handful to deal with.. the teachers who are expected to deal with them are supposed to be getting twice a handful and more of pay!
