A bench warrant issued for Karim Warner, a suspended police officer, was revoked today by Magistrate Ngaio Emanuel following the officer’s apology for missing his scheduled court appearance.
Warner, facing charges of discharging a firearm in a public place and assault, failed to appear in court on Tuesday, prompting the issuance of a bench warrant.
The warrant, which authorized law enforcement to arrest Warner, was short-lived as he presented himself to the court later that day.
Explaining his absence, Warner cited a misunderstanding regarding the court date.
He arrived at the courthouse in the afternoon after learning of the warrant, only to find that the day’s session had concluded.
Magistrate Emanuel accepted his apology but sternly advised Warner to be more diligent in tracking his court dates.
The charges against Warner stem from an incident in December of the previous year.
He is accused of firing 12 shots at a white Toyota Mark X occupied by two individuals in Willikies. The vehicle’s occupants were identified as a man from Hodges Bay and his girlfriend from Liberta.
Warner has pleaded not guilty to the charges. According to reports, the altercation arose from a dispute over a leased vehicle. Warner allegedly claimed that one of the complainants had failed to return a vehicle he had leased to them, and the shooting incident occurred during an apparent attempt to reclaim the vehicle.
Police investigators reported finding evidence at the scene, including bullet holes near the handle of one of the car’s rear doors and spent shells in the vicinity.
Warner will stand trial on November 26.
Karim “Shotta Dozen” Warner! Happy the court was able to forgive him for missing the court date. But I hope they also be just in giving him what he deserves. Attempted Murder if you ask me. I could be wrong but let him go and chill with the bad boys at HMP since he want to show that he is a bad man.
I hope when ordinary civilians apologize for missing their court date(s), the magistrate or judge will give them the same consideration like the police officer. I am sure this same police officer picked up civilians who had missed their court date. I hope he realizes that we are all human. Some officers behave that they’re about the law.
